This site was created for the promotion of amateur radio operators and amateur meteorology new Russian weather satellite of the Earth «Meteor-M №2» broadcasting at frequencies of 137.1 and 137.9 in the LRPT format.

В связи с большим числом русскоговорящих посетителей сайта появившихся после статьи про Дмитрия Пашкова в МК РОБОНУКА решил добавить для них это сообщение.
Этот сайт был создан специалистами Научного Центра Оперативного Мониторинга Земли по личной инициативе в августе 2014 года с целью популяризации среди радиолюбителей и метеорологов любителей всего мира нового российского метеорологического спутника Метеор-М №2. Основной поток информации со спутника передается на высоких скоростях и требует профессионального дорогостоящего оборудования и специального программного обеспечения, и поэтому его прием в полной мере возможен только на приемных станциях РОСГИДРОМЕТ и в НЦОМЗ. Но, кроме этого, с борта Метеора ведется непрерывная трансляция изображения Земли с разрешением 1 км на радиочастоте 137.1 МГц в формате LRPT. И сразу после запуска Метеора на форумах радиолюбителей появились сообщения об успешном приеме этого сигнала. Однако у радиолюбителей возникли проблемы с извлечением изображения из принятого сигнала. Поэтому после просьбы радиолюбителя с Кубы Raydel Abreu Espinet (CM2ESP) была разработана и выложена программа для декодирования сигнала LRPT с Метеора-М №2, принимаемого радиолюбителями.
В настоящий момент РОБОНУКА считает первоначальную миссию этого сайта успешно выполненной. Информация с новейшего российского метеорологического спутника стала доступна всем желающим, что в свою очередь помогает профессионалам из НЦОМЗ управлять космическим аппаратом, так как при возникновении проблем с передачей картинки со всего мира поступают сообщения о проблеме от радиолюбителей  даже тогда, когда спутник находится вне зоны радиовидимости  НЦОМЗ, что помогает оперативно исправлять неполадки.

      I use a conventional APT omnidirectional antenna. The receiver is http://www.comblock.com/com3011.html. The interface is http://www.opalkelly.com/products/xem3010/ . QPSK demodulator is written in Delphi ( there is a legal license :)) ), LRPT decoder too. In short, apart aluminum from that the antenna is made all other made ​​in the USA :))

      The receiver is situated in the center of the city and the industrial noise level is very high. Therefore, these images are not full every time.

    I have a question for you guys…
    I assume that the images downloaded are from the visible channel of the MSU-MR sensor onboard Meteor M2 satellite. Is there a possibility to modify the RGB values from the software in order to see the lights from cities, during the reception in the night??

      Yes there is maybe. It is necessary to switch to the strongest sensitivity of MSU-MR, but this will not do.

      I have exactly same setup as you, except I have an RTL-SDR instead of FCD+, and you have some great images. What have you done to have such long passes? I’ve tried to receive recently and I managed to get just a small section during night pass. I’m also receiving NOAA APT and it comes out very nice and clear, but I can’t get Meteor to really work.

      Doesn’t matter what mode you are in in SDR# if you are doing a baseband recording Tetsu.

      If you open the saved baseband recording in SDR# you can replay it as many times as you like. It’s like a live snapshot of the RF band.

        The saved baseband recording in SDR# can be replayed as a source IQ file but is an unreadable in Audacity or any other .wav player.

    Can you consider adding a tick that would automatically export
    the current filled channels in B/W and perhaps a custom false color combo that you can set manually?
    I could be an parameter added to the exe if you didn’t want to go into the GUI.
    I would imagine most export files after processing the file — so let’s do it automatically.

    I suggest these functions and options.
    (1) Image rotation
    (2) Image invert ( for IR image )
    (3) Help file to read .log files
    (meaning of output ex. CuredRS,FatalRS,etc)
    (4) command line opiton for input file and output file and RGB selection
    for automatic processing

    A few more, less important…

    Preview sub-sample mode to get a quick preview of image.
    Dynamic range stretch to set black at 0 and white at 255.
    Image correction to compensate for image distortion.

      I fixed a bug that caused the error memory overflow. The new version is available for download. This version is based on a crude version that I did not want to publish so long as it can be shown other bugs.

    It’s a great idea! The opportunities that follow digital recepetion and collaboration are endless! Just got my QFH rebuilt and working and can now receive some nice chunks with just the antenna and RTL-dongle. The viewer is a great step. Maybe and some «live» web-front to the downloaded chunks? A bit hard to verify that received data has been uploaded.

    hi, my name is Clinton and I am trying to receive imagery from meteor mn2 at 137.1000 and I’m on the east coast of Australia.
    The problem is there is pits of signal. I’ve tried using my household aerials and the aerials that come with the RTL2832u sticks. I’m using a e4000 stick. Nothing will process. Will rabbit ears with a built in amp be any help

      Meteor-M 2 is not transmitting any LRPT at the moment at the request of Meteorologists. It however is transmitting HRPT.

      That being said you can pick up LRPT on Meteor-M 1. M1 has come back to life and is transmitting beautiful pictures!!!!

    Hi everyone!

    Does anyone know what happened with Meteor M1? I am no longer getting image from either M1 or M2. This morning I tried again and this time actually observed a signal, but it definitely was not LRPT. It’s bandwidth was less than usual and it’s ‘image’ did not split into 4 in the QPSK plugin. I recorded ~30 seconds baseband if anyone knows how to analyse it… Links is (download might be throttled, pls be patient):

    Thanks for a great software.
    But i have a problem to receive image from Meteor satellite. I can receive nice, strong signal, but decoding starts only when satellite is far away and signal is fading out, so i can get only last seconds from all pass… Maybe someone have some suggestions what i am doing wrong.

        I am also having some difficulties with decoding the signal on one of my PCs. Why is PC clock important in the receiving/decoding process? And what is PPM?

      Perhaps the signal is too strong for QPSK demodulation. Is the constellation of QPSK is like four dots? If the each dots shape like ellipse, it overloaded. Please try to decrease the gain of receiver -10dB or more.

    Thank you for the excellent software! Is there any particular reason the source of LRPT Analizer is not available? I can’t seem to be finding anything about it.

    I just set up an automatic Meteor-M N2 receiver on raspberry pi2/3. It works really great up until the last step which includes manually downloading the symbols file from my server and then decoding it by LRPT Analizer to get the image…. one step missing from a fully automatic system.

    I am looking for any info I may need to try and write Meteor LRPT decoder software for the Linux operating system. I have experience with the analogue APT system (I have software for the purpose on my website — http://www.5b4az.org) and other soundcard apps too.

    Could you let me know where to find Meteor LRPT protocol specs and any other info on the subject please? Its likely to be a long shot but if I succeed I will release the application on my website too.

      К сожалению я не могу опубликовать исходный код LRPT декодера, так как в нем частично использован код принадлежащий конторе на которую я работаю. А она против раскрытия этого кода. На сайте я опубликовал посты в которых раскрываются нюансы реализации LRPT Метеора, что позволяет произвести декорирование сигнала тем кто в теме…

    I have just uploaded a beta version of my translation of meteor_decoder, written in Pascal by Artyom Litvinovich, to the C language, on to my website: http://5b4az.org/pkg/met_decoder-0.2-beta.tar.bz2
    This translated version was developed on the Void Linux distribution but with minimal dependencies it may be adaptable to other platforms.

    I have added a little code of my own to do a histogram normalization (e.g contrast stretching) to the images and also to do some additional pseudo-coloration of the compound image. Both these functions can be controled from additional command line options. Otherwise the translated version is identical to the original pascal version and does the same things.
