LRPT Analizer 2015

Hi all.

The ROBONUKA is glad to anonce new version of  the LRPToffLineDecoder. The new LRPToffLineDecoder can generate a geogrid file which can be used to form an image in GeoTIFF format. A software to convert Meteor-M2 images to GeoTIFF format kindly presented by enthusiasts from NTSOMZ. This software was created using the GDAL library  and can be used by radio amateurs freely at their discretion.

Below is a mosaic of images obtained by August 21, 2014 in Moscow. The first picture presented the mosaic in program ERDAS Imagine, and the second is the same mosaic in programs ArcGIS Explorer (free).

Downloads this zip and unpack the 2015.3.20.15 folder to drive C. Then run ExampleOfHowToUse.bat. It automatically processes the sample file M2_LRPT_2014-8-21-9-36-6-778.s.hard. Geocoded TIF will be generate to c:\2015.3.20.15\data.

Downloads this is special release for Les Hamilton (Web Page).  It will be work in not GEOGRID mode and has FAST button which remembers a last hand options.

Downloads this is special extraordinary expert’s release for HappySat. Fixed a bug zero hours. New decoder’s algorithms (ability to hide bugs) . Use with caution. If you find that the new version decodes worse than the previous please inform and send raw files.

Downloads this is special release (big size example file and Russian documentation) for Vasili. Connect LRPT decoder and  QPSK plugin through TCP sockets.

Please ask questions if something is not clear and make suggestions that will be incorporated in future releases.

Important innovations:

1. New section GEO entered in the ini file.

[GEO]
RoughStartTimeUTC=21.08.2014
TleFileName=C:\2015.3.20.15\norad_M2.txt

where

RoughStartTimeUTC is needed to determine the date of recording as a telemetry transmitted only time of the day without a date.

TleFileName  specifies a file with a set of two-row telegrams with orbital data.

Other way to determine the orbital data is

[GEO]
RoughStartTimeUTC=21.08.2014
TLE0=Meteor-M N2
TLE1=1 40069U 14037A 14232.12903043 -.00000048 00000-0 -17417-5 0 1281
TLE2=2 40069 098.8026 283.8219 0004891 321.8260 038.2573 14.20570429 6021

2.  Geocoded TIF image can be put on the map by using the any GIS. For example ArcGIS Explorer.

    Ole,

    I tried to run ExampleOfHowToUse.bat. The three images appeared in LRPToffLineDecoder, but the process ended with this error message:

    Access violation at address 02876097 in module ‘SGP4.dll’

    Closing the error box, and clicking the RGB button, kept repeating the error. No images were produced.

    I have also tried using this new LRPToffLineDecoder wothout an INI file, to decode one of my own RAW files.
    Again, the SGP4.dll error occurs, and it is impossible to create images.

  2. Les Hamilton

    I have solved the 2nd problem by adding the SGP4 DLL to the LRPTofflineDecoder folder.

    But as I am not using any ini file, and not trying to create a GEOTiff image, the program should not require the SGP4 module.

      Thank Les.
      I fixed the bug related with SGP4.dll in the next release. And I want to tell about another possible error associated with the library SGP4 in mode with the creation of geogrid — it occurs when the file norad_M2.txt is not updated for a long time.

    Hi Oleg, I finally tested the GEO section with the 2015.3.20.15 download, there was the SGP4.DLL access violation so I tried with latest versions of LRPT analizer. That worked better but it always end with that error in the CMD box: Error: can not read gcp file

    Do you know what the problem is?

      Hi Luc,

      I’m sorry that all has not responded to your request for a detailed description of the sections of the GEO. All forces are now spent on AMIGOS. Amigos end as close to the needs of users in a geographic visualization of images and the projection over the imposition of vector data.

      Regarding this issue I assume that gcp file is not formed or not formed where necessary. Send me all the configuration files and command files.

      Oleg

    Hi Oleg,

    I used the folder as it is in the download but there was the SGP4.DLL access violation error so I replaced the LRPT Analizer version to 2015.04.20.0023 and that’s the result I have.

    Hi,
    I’m using AMIGOS now and tried to have GCP file in order to make GEOTiff but the last version of LRPT Decoder does not seem to handle the GEO section in the ini file.
    Perhaps i’m doing wrong, but testing the happysat exe file it works.
    Could you help with the GEO section please ?
    Thank you.

    Hello and thank you for the software you developed and share with us satellite enthusiasts.

    Today for the first time I succeeded to lock into the Meteor M2 signal using SDR# and QPSK plugin. M2_LRPT_Decoder.exe received data and started showing images (with a lot of blank spaces), but no image was saved anywhere to my computer at the end of the pass. Luckily I mad a screenshot (http://vesolje.net/lrpt/meteor17082015.jpg). I have made a QFH antenna that receives APT signal from NOAA satellites quite good. In SDR# I have set a sample rate of 2,56 MSPS.

    TCP.ini used:

    [IN]
    _source=TCP
    _host=localhost
    _port=2011
    _mode=72K
    _filename=(FILE=error)(TCP=DateTimeToFileName(now))

    [OUT]
    _path=
    _rgb=NO
    _rgb_q=100
    _mono=NO
    _logs=NO
    _APID70=NO
    _VCDU=NO

    [_GEO]
    _RoughStartTimeUTC=0
    _TleFileName=NO
    _TLE0=NO
    _TLE1=NO
    _TLE2=NO

    Can anyone please help me or give advice on how to obtain an image from Meteor M2 or at least tell me what I am doing wrong. Thank you in advance. Greeting from Slovenia.

      You need edit ini-file.

      [IN]
      _source=TCP
      _host=localhost
      _port=2011
      _mode=72K
      _filename=(FILE=error)(TCP=DateTimeToFileName(now))

      [OUT]
      path=C:\AMIGOS\Images
      _rgb=NO
      _rgb_q=100
      mono=JPG
      _logs=NO
      _APID70=NO
      _VCDU=NO

      [_GEO]
      _RoughStartTimeUTC=0
      _TleFileName=NO
      _TLE0=NO
      _TLE1=NO
      _TLE2=NO

      Path «C:\AMIGOS\Images» must exists. Or use other path.

  7. Simon

    Thank you for a swift reply. I have edited the ini file as per your instruction.
    I will try it tonight when Meteor passes over Ljubljana.

    1. Simon

      Hello,

      the signal from Meteor was weak, but it locked (not stable, dropping out of lock every other second) and the decoder showed the following. At the end of the pass an empty (white) bmp image was saved in the directory. I guess it is normal that no data was saved from the pass (not even the partial image that was displayed live in the decoder), since it was quite weak (50° above horizon, but behind some buildings)? Screenshot: http://vesolje.net/lrpt/meteor-vecer.png

        Hi Simon

        The frequency spectrum of the signal Meteor-M must be symmetric, as in the screenshot left shoulder severely tightened. It seems to me that you have a problem with the radio or noisy reception.

        Oleg Robonuka

  8. Simon

    Hello Oleg,

    Meteor M2 just passed over Ljubljana and I was able to get a good lock on its signal which lasted a few minutes (from approximately 50° above horizon until 30°). As you can see on the screenshot, I received quite good images (the picture was taken after the lock was lost).

    Screenshot: http://vesolje.net/lrpt/meteor18082015.jpg
    No image was automatically saved anywhere on my computer (nothing at the directory specified in the ini file). I pressed Generate RGB to obtain the following image (new window opened and I could save it in BMP):

    http://vesolje.net/lrpt/2015-8-18-10-55-23-502_123.jpg

    Clicking on 123.jpg did not produce anything (or maybe that is how the above image was produced. The pass went so quickly, that I do not seem to remeber because of excitement).

    Can anyone tell me how can I save the three grayscale images separately? After the pass was over, the decoder closed and those live images were not saved anywhere.

  9. Simon

    I just discovered SmoothMeteor and it seems that I am able to extract the original grayscale images from the RGB BMP image using the program. Still looking for solution to automatically save RGB BMP from the decoder, before QPSK SDR# plugin closes it at the end of the pass.

    How M2_LRPT_Decoder.exe is running — manually or by SDR# ?
    You must edit ini file which will use by M2_LRPT_Decoder.exe.
    For manual run it is M2_LRPT_Decoder.ini
    For SDR# run it is the ini-file from command line.

  11. Simon

    Decoder is being run by SDR# at the beginning of Meteor pass.
    The Decoder is run by SDR# by the following BAT script:

    START M2_LRPT_Decoder.exe M2_LRPT_Decoder.ini

    M2_LRPT_Decoder.ini is as follows:

    [IN]
    _source=TCP
    _host=localhost
    _port=2011
    _mode=72K
    _filename=(FILE=error)(TCP=DateTimeToFileName(now))

    [OUT]
    _path=C:\Users\vesolje\Desktop\sdr-install\sdrsharp\meteor
    _rgb=122.jpg
    _rgb_q=100
    _mono=JPG
    _logs=NO
    _APID70=NO
    _VCDU=NO

    [_GEO]
    _RoughStartTimeUTC=0
    _TleFileName=NO
    _TLE0=NO
    _TLE1=NO
    _TLE2=NO

    [FAST]
    R=1
    G=2
    B=3
    FORMAT=jpg

    But nothing is automatically saved when the Decoder closes (after QPSK plugin terminates demodulation at the end of the pass). Also, would it be possible that instead of JPG a BMP image would be saved (currently nothing gets saved automatically at all, but looking at the ini file, I gues it is supposed to save an JPG file. I think it would be better if a BMP image was saved (lossless).

    Your error is — you need delete _ for activation parametr. Like below:

    [IN]
    _source=TCP
    _host=localhost
    _port=2011
    _mode=72K
    _filename=(FILE=error)(TCP=DateTimeToFileName(now))

    [OUT]
    path=C:\Users\vesolje\Desktop\sdr-install\sdrsharp\meteor
    rgb=122.jpg
    _rgb_q=100
    mono=JPG
    _logs=NO
    _APID70=NO
    _VCDU=NO

    [_GEO]
    _RoughStartTimeUTC=0
    _TleFileName=NO
    _TLE0=NO
    _TLE1=NO
    _TLE2=NO

    [FAST]
    R=1
    G=2
    B=3
    FORMAT=jpg

  13. Simon

    Oh, I see, so «_» is like a comment symbol (same as «//» in PHP for example)?
    So everything was basically commented in my ini file.
    I fill fix it and report back.

    BTW: Can I change format from JPG to BMP?

  14. Simon

    Thank you, Oleg, it worked! 🙂 When the LRPT decoder closed, images were saved to the selected directory. Although today’s pass was not very good and I received only a partial image.

  15. Simon

    Meteor M2 transmitting on 146,1 MHz tonight. Was this a planned changed? I received no signal on 137,1 MHz at the time of pass, then by chance zoomed out of frequency and saw the signal on different frequency. Will it continue transmitting on 146,1 or move back to 137,1?

  16. Simon

    Could it be that in the left top corner of the image that I have posted the curvature of the Earth is visible? That would mean that the satellite is not pointing towards the ground, since usually this can not be seen on images from Meteor M2. Could there be some problems with satellite’s orientation and therefore antenna was not pointed correctly?

    Hi GUys

    please help this newbie, I ran it like explained on the website and get this error:

    LRPT version 2015.3.20.0015

    The error comes after trying to run the example data.

    many thanks
